Q & A with the Team behind the Movie Making Workshops

The Movie Maker Mission Workshops are taking place this summer at Hampton Court. What can children expect from the workshops?

These hands-on workshops are a chance for young people to become a part of Movie Maker Mission and help bring Hampton Court Palace’s history to life. They will get a chance to learn some animation skills and explore stories from the palace’s past and create a drawing that will be included in an Aardman animated film celebrating Hampton Court Palace’s 500thanniversary.

Who is running the workshops? What different movie making techniques will the children learn?

The workshop will be led by professional animators who will teach some of the techniques that they use every day. Participants can choose between Greenscreen, Claymation or iStop. They will also have the help from their very own time guide who will be there to help young people navigate through Hampton Court’s history.

What age group would you recommend the workshops for?

These workshops are aimed at 11-14 year olds who are interested in animation, no previous experience is needed. Tickets are brought on an individual basis, so feel free to come alone or with a friend.

Do I need to bring anything along?

You won’t need to bring anything on the day; we will provide all equipment and even a tasty lunch.

Do you have any recommendations what parents could do between drop off/pick up while the workshop is running?

Whilst these workshops are very much for young people to attend alone, parents are more than welcome to spend the day at Hampton Court Palace and Gardens whilst their children get animating.
