IS SYON HOUSE HAUNTED? The magnificent sixteenth-century stately home in Syon Park has more than its fair share of intriguing history, so it’s no wonder that rumours of ghostly goings-on are rife as soon as the sun sets and the place seems spookier. The theme of this year’s Halloween tours is ‘History, Film… Death’, and visitors will hear tales of tragic priests, doomed monarchs and loyal servants who met a sticky end as they explore the house, keeping an eye out for the supernatural on the way. BOO AT THE ZOO | ZSL London Zoo will be hosting a fun week of spooky goings on this Halloween half term with a little help from some of its furry, feathery and scaly friends. Boo at the Zoo will offer visitors a packed week of ghoulish animal treats that will see them howling with delight as they get up close and personal with mighty owls, enter the Black Widow’s Lair and face a mystery feely-box challenge. Throughout the day the mysterious Mr Darkmire will draw back the curtain of the Grim Curiosity Shoppe to reveal a hidden inner sanctum – the Owl Emporium. HALLOWEEN EXPERIENCE AT THE CANAL MUSEUM | A unique trip through Islington Tunnel on board one of London’s community narrow boats, specially decorated for the occasion with a friendly witch amongst the crew. Be prepared for some surprise sights in the darkness of the 193 year old tunnel! Kids receive sweets on board and a free glow stick. A Ghost Story Teller will tell stories in the museum 4:30pm – 8:30pm (30 min after the hour) on both days. Each story-telling session lasts about 20 minutes. HAMMERSMITH HALLOWEEN EVENT | Visit London’s creepy Witches’ cabin on Lyric Square for a variety of free chilling Halloween activities to keep you (or your kids!) busy this half-term. To start off take part in the Halloween Pumpkin Hunt, which will run from Wednesday 29th October to Friday 31st October. On Halloween itself, make sure you take advantage of free face-painting. Come along to our creepy cabin from 1pm, take pictures with the wicked witch and leave with a new face in preparation for our Fancy Dress Competition at 4pm. HYDE PARK DISCOVERY DAYS | Batty about bats? Drop in to the free discovery days any time between 11am and 3pm. All ages are welcome. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are home to several different bat species – common pipistrelles, soprano pipistrelles, and noctules. You can also get into the Halloween spirit and take part in a host of spectacularly spooky activities from ‘Pin the wart on the witch’ to potion making from herbs, sticks and mud.
